≡ What's New at Chelsea SC
B97 Blue Champions at Irvine Summer Classic
B97_BLUE 28 JUN 2009 - Chelsea SC B97 Blue won their second straight tournament going 4-0 and allowing only 3 goals. Chelsea saved its best performances for the Sunday matches needing first to win against American United (Silver) to advance. Chelsea dominated the entire game with many scoring chances which finally led to two goals by Brian Hai and a 2-1 victory. Logan Harrigan was very strong in goal with great midfield play by Andy Norin and Isaac Meda.

Chelsea played Laguna Niguel in the Championship who went into the game scoring more goals than any other team. They were not prepared for our speed and stifling defensive pressure. Led by Seth Rivuelda and Joshua Gutierrez, Laguna was held to only one shot on goal in the first half. Exceptional play up front by Kevin Villareal led to our scoring with constant pressure applied by Parker Hodges keeping Laguna scrambling. Another dominating team performance led to a 3-1 victory and the championship. Great job boys, let's keep on rolling!
G93 Blue USYS National Cup Regional Champions
G93_BLUE 23 JUN 2009 - Coach Mike Silzer's Chelsea SC G93s began their summer tuneups for next fall's Premier season last weekend, competing at US Club Soccer's San Bernardino National Cup Regionals, June 20-23.

Chelsea made it through pool-play in fine fashion - undefeated through the three games. The opener was a 2-0 victory over Crescenta Valley on two goals by Aly Moon - the 2nd on a penalty kick after Moon was tackled in the box by Crescenta Valley's keeper.

In game 2, Select Cities Fusion's offside trap defense backfired badly, with Chelsea logging a 6-0 victory on goals by Moon, Jackie Kebler, Maya Jackson, Courtney Kay, and Krystal Vega.

In the final game of pool play, Chelsea eked out a hard-fought 1-0 victory - the only goal coming on a penalty kick after Aly Moon was again taken down hard in the box. Maya Jackson tallying the score while Moon recovered from the collision.

Throughout pool-play, Chelsea's defense was solid, notching shutout after shutout. The final, however, would see the Chelsea defenders facing a Maui United team - also undefeated - that had scored 12 goals in 3 games coming into the match.

Early in the first half against Maui, Chelsea drew first blood as Elizabeth Powell managed to redirect a long throw-in from Maya Jackson into the net. Powell scored again several minutes later, on a high looping shot that dropped in over the outstretched arms of Maui's retreating keeper. Finally, late in the first half, Maui cracked Chelsea's defense, breaking through to close the lead to a single goal.

In the 2nd half, Maui came out like a team with a mission, repeatedly challenging Chelsea's defense and keeper. Chelsea continued to manufacture dangerous opportunities as well, but with 10 minutes remaining, Maui again broke free for a score, tying the game 2-2. Regulation time ended tied, and the teams took a brief break in preparation for two 10-minute OT periods. The first overtime ended scoreless, and both teams dug deep in the heat of San Bernardino, hoping to secure the victory without resorting to penalty kicks. Finally, with 3 minutes remaining, Lauren Ekman dropped a long direct kick just inside Maui's penalty box, where Maya Jackson raced to punch it into the corner of the net.

Chelsea's defense again held strong against the desperate Hawaiian attack for the remaining 3 minutes, and Chelsea had secured the championship in the US Club Soccer GU 15 National Cup San Bernardino Regionals.

G99 Irvine Memorial Classic Tournament Champions
G99_BLUE 01 JUN 2009 - Congratulations to Chelsea G99 for winning their flight in the Irvine Memorial Classic Tournament.

The girls won their first two games and needed a tie or a win in the third game to advance to the finals. In an exciting third game, after scoring first, they fell behind 2-1, but were saved by a late goal to even the score and propel the team to the finals.

Led by a strong defense and solid goalkeeping between the posts, only 5 goals were allowed over the 4 games. In the finals against FC Long Beach, the girls battled from a one-goal deficit to score three second-half goals to win the championship. Strong play in the midfield supported the scoring and defensive efforts and great battles from the forwards led the team to outscore their opponents and lead them to victory.

Great job girls!
